About Beltline
Beltline is one of Calgary's most vibrant and densely populated inner-city neighbourhoods, situated just south of the downtown core. Bounded roughly by the Elbow River to the east, 17th Avenue SW to the south, 14th Street SW to the west, and the CP Rail corridor to the north, Beltline pulses with urban energy unlike almost anywhere else in Alberta. The neighbourhood is a dynamic mix of historic walk-up apartments, modern condo towers, indie businesses, and a thriving food and nightlife scene. 17th Avenue SW, often called the Red Mile, serves as the social spine of the community, lined with patios, boutiques, restaurants, and bars. The area attracts young professionals, creatives, students, and long-time urbanists who value walkability, transit access, and proximity to everything Calgary has to offer. Green spaces like Haultain Park and Lindsay Park provide breathing room amid the density. The Beltline has undergone significant densification over the past two decades, yet retains a grounded, neighbourhood feel. Community gardens, local advocacy groups, and a strong residents association keep civic life active. It remains one of the few Calgary neighbourhoods where owning a car feels genuinely optional.
